Newport, Rhode Island has the largest deep water port on the east coast of the United States. In colonial times, this city was a bustling port of trade, with ships from all over the world. As a deep water port, the ships sailing to come right in the port number to download without fear of bass. During the colonial period it was easier to go to Newport with the water and on land.
The Revolutionary War brought an end to this bustling commercial port,as the leading British blockade during the war and invaded the city, this city so vibrant port to a standstill. During the Revolutionary War, Providence, Rhode Island flourished as a trading port and it was important today. Newport never regained importance as a trading port, and except for a glimpse of life at the turn of the 19th century as a summer residence for the richest, Newport continued as a sleepy little port, virtually locked in time, is built with colonial homes and buildings still in use today. Much of the port city of Newport is now called the historic district.
At the turn of the 19th Century, a time rich in New York City and further south, between North and South Carolina found, Newport as a location great summer from the cooling sea breeze constantly blowing over the> Island, Newport came alive again, at least during the summer months. Construction began at the top of the hill overlooking the harbor on sites such as blocks of great cities requires a new road called Bellevue Avenue.
